Materials:

• Yarn: Lion Brand Scarfie Yarn shown in Teal/Silver
• Hook: Size I, 5.5mm
• Scissors
• Yarn Needle
• Measuring Tape

Adore it! There’s something about texture that calls to me! And this beanie has the perfect combination. With it’s fitted band and popping puff stitches, this is as fun to make as it is to wear!

13 hdc by 8 rows BLO = 4”

Pattern Key:

• Ch: Chain
• Sc: Single Crochet
• Sc2tog: Single Crochet 2 Together
• Hdc: Half Double Crochet
• Dc: Double Crochet
• BLO: Back Loop Only
• FLO: Front Loop Only
• Slst: Slip Stitch
• St(s): Stitch(es)
• YO: Yarn Over
• *: Repeat instructions between symbol until indicated
• [ ]: Repeat instructions all in one stitch
• { }: work amount according to size

Special Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.

When stitch counts are listed, they will be listed in sequential order. Chains are not included in counts.

Specialty Stitching:

Puff Stitch (puff st): When pulling up a loop, draw up to the height of a dc.
*YO, insert hook into indicated space, YO and pull up a loop, repeat * 4 more times (11 loops on hook), YO and draw through all loops on hook

Free Slouch Hat Crochet Pattern

Brim

Ch 9

R1: Starting in 2^nd ch from hook, hdc in each ch across (8 sts)

R2:
0-3 months: Turn, ch 1, hdc in BLO of each st across (8 sts)
Repeat until you have 24 rows.

3-6 months: Turn, ch 1, hdc in BLO of each st across (8 sts)
Repeat until you have 26 rows.

6-12 months: Turn, ch 1, hdc in BLO of each st across (8 sts)
Repeat until you have 28 rows.

1-3 years: Turn, ch 1, hdc in BLO of each st across (8 sts)
Repeat until you have 32 rows.

3-10 years: Turn, ch 1, hdc in BLO of each st across (8 sts)
Repeat until you have 36 rows including row 1.

Teen/Adult: Turn, ch 1, hdc in BLO of each st across (8 sts)
Repeat until you have 40 rows including row 1.

Match both ends together. Ch 1, slst in FLO of each st and beginning chain like picture below. This joins the two ends. Turn the band just made so that the slsts are on the inside of the piece. This is now considered the wrong side.

You will now turn your work so you will be working on the ends of the rows just worked like picture below.

Body of Hat

R1: Ch 1, work 3 sc in side of every 2 rows, join – 36, 39, 42, 48, 54, 60

R2: Ch 1, [puff st, ch 2, puff st] in same, ch 1, skip 2 sts, *[puff st, ch 2, puff st] in next, ch 1, skip 2 sts, repeat * around, join to 1^st puff st – 24, 26, 28, 32, 36, 40 puff sts

R3: Slst in next ch 2 space, ch 1, [puff st, ch 2, puff st] in same ch 2 space, ch 1, skip puff st, skip ch 1 space, skip puff st, *[puff st, ch 2, puff st] in next ch 2 space, ch 1, skip puff st, skip ch 1 space, skip puff st, repeat * around, join – 24, 26, 28, 32, 36, 40 puff sts

Repeat Round 3 until total length measures {6.5”, 7”, 7.5”, 8”, 8.5”, 9”}.

R4: Slst in next ch 2 space, ch 1, sc2tog using same ch 2 space and next ch 2 space, *sc2tog using next 2 ch 2 spaces, repeat * around, join – 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20 sts

Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail between stitches and pull tight to close. Secure and weave in ends.

Attach pom pom if desired.
