Stiffening thread is one of the many things I like to do when working with crocheted motifs. This quick and fun motif can be used for many things but I loved connecting 5 together over a balloon to create a crocheted motif bowl! See the pictures of those at the end of the post. But for now, check out this thread motif crochet pattern!

- Thread:Â Aunt Lydia Classic Crochet Thread 10
- Hook: Â Size C, 2.75mm
- Scissors
- Sewing Needle
 for weaving in ends
- Measuring Tape

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch. Chains are not included in stitch counts.
Thread Motif Crochet Pattern
Magic Circle
R1: Ch 1, 8 sc in circle, join – 8 sc
R2: Ch 1, sc in same, ch 5, *sc in next st, ch 5, repeat * around, join to sc – 8 sc
R3: Slst in next 2 chs, ch 1, sc in same ch 5 space, ch 5, *sc in next ch 5 space, ch 5, repeat * around, join to first sc – 8 sc
R4: Slst in next 2 chs, ch 1, sc in same ch 5 space, ch 7, *sc in next ch 5 space, ch 7, repeat * around, join to first sc – 8 sc
R5: Slst in next 3 chs, ch 1, sc in same ch 7 space, ch 9, *sc in next ch 7 space, ch 9, repeat * around, join to first sc – 8 sc
R6: Slst in next 4 chs, ch 1, sc in same ch 9 space, ch 11, *sc in next ch 9 space, ch 11, repeat * around, join to first sc – 8 sc
R7: Slst in next 5 chs, ch 1, sc in same ch 11 space, ch 13, *sc in next ch 11 space, ch 13, repeat * around, join to first sc – 8 sc
R8: Slst in next 6 chs, ch 1, sc in same ch 13 space, ch 15, *sc in next ch 13 space, ch 15, repeat * around, join to first sc – 8 sc
Finish off and weave in ends.
Create 5 for making a bowl. More directions are below.
Recommended but optional: Stiffen motifs before shaping around balloon. Balloon Tutorial can be found here. Follow same instructions but drape motif shapes over top half of balloon.
