Why Crocheted Scrubby Patterns?
December 2019 started my dish cloth craze with the Melted Snowman Scrubby! This year, there's a new crocheted scrubby every month, forever free on the blog. This year-long project will give us a chance to create a new one every month, as well as replace our previous one, but also use up that scrubby yarn we have on hand. Beach Ball Scrubby Crochet Pattern
Materials:
- Yarn: Scrubby Yarn like Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle Yarn in white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Plus additional yarn to fill ball.
- Hook: Size G, 4.0mm
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- Measuring Tape
- Optional: Plastic or cardboard bobbins (I used plastic as they’re more durable)
in white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Plus additional yarn to fill ball.

13 hdc by 11 rows = 4”
Pattern Key:
- Ch: Chain
- Hdc: Half Double Crochet
- Hdc2tog: Half Double Crochet 2 Together
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
- St(s): Stitch(es)

Special Pattern Notes:
Beginning chain does not count as a stitch unless noted.
It’s easier to cut and wind separate colors for ease when working. Hold yarn that isn’t working on wrong side.
Yardage needed: 3.5 yards white (2 yards for Round 1, 1.5 yards for Round 12); 5 yards of each of the 6 colors PLUS yarn to fill

Beach Ball Scrubby Crochet Pattern Instructions
Magic Circle with white scrubby yarn
R1: Ch 1, 12 hdc in circle, join switching to red – 12 sts
After every 4th stitch in the next round, change colors.
R2: (RS) Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join – 24 sts
After every 6th stitch in the next round, change colors.
R3: (WS) Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in same, hdc in next, *2 hdc in next, hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 36 sts
After every 6th stitch in the next few rounds, change colors.
R4-9: Ch 1, turn, hdc in each st around, join – 36 sts
After every 4th stitch in the next round, change colors.
R10: Ch 1, turn, *hdc2tog, hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 24 sts
Stuff ball with extra scrubby yarn.
After every 2nd stitch in the next round, change colors.
R11: Ch 1, turn, hdc2tog around, join changing to white yarn – 12 sts
R12: Ch 1, turn, hdc2tog around, join – 6 sts
Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail with needle through last 6 sts. Pull tight to close and secure. Weave in end.
