Braided Key Chain ~ A Crafty Tutorial

What You’ll Need:

• Split Keychain Ring
• Strips of Cord/Suede/Leather/Fabric/Yarn
• Measuring Tape
• Scissors
• Optional: beads or Charms

Gather your supplies and cut 3 lengths of cord of any type 30″ long. After strips are cut, we’re going to join them on the key ring using a larks head knot. Match both ends of strip together. Keeping ends together, find the middle loop.

Insert the middle loop through the key ring. Weave the two ends though the loop. Pull ends to tighten.

In the picture tutorial below, each strand is labeled A – F. It is recommended to pull strands tight as you work. Pictures are shown loose for visibility.

Cross C over D, then D over B.

Cross E over C, then B over E. Last picture shows braid pulled tight to this point.

The next steps you’ll continue to repeat until you reach the length desired.
Left Picture: Take the farthest left most strand (D) and cross it over the one next to it (E) and under the one next to that (A).
Middle Picture: Take farthest right most strand (F) and cross it over the one next to it (C) and under the one next to that (B).
Right Picture: Using the two middle strands now, criss cross the left (A) over the right (F).

Repeat the 3 steps above. For this key chain, repeat until braid measures 7″.

To tie a knot to secure the braid: Cross outer strands over the front. Turn braid over. Tie a knot at the back and pull tight to secure.
If one strand stick out, loop it through the knot using a tweezers.

What you’ll need:

• Wine Bottle or something similar
• Wood piece, can be any shape, with enough height to nail into
• Drill bit as large as top of wine bottle
• Nails, Hooks, Hangers, etc
• Optional: Spray Paint
• Optional: Marbles/Pebbles , Fairy Lights, or something decorative to put inside if it’s clear.

In a well ventilated area, spray clean wine bottle with spray paint. Let dry completely. While drying, drill a hole in the center of your wood piece large enough to fit over the mouth of the wine bottle. Spray wood if desired. When everything is completely dry, evenly screw or hammer in hooks/nails/etc along side of wood piece. (Tip: if using this display, have something with you for weight or extra product to keep adding as things are bought so wood will stay even.)
