Happy August! This month always has me thinking about school. Not only do my kids go back soon, but so do I. So I can’t say that I’m like many parents that look forward to this time of year. I enjoy, as much as or possibly more, my summer vacation. But alas, it is that time! And what better way to bring school back into swing than with a Crochet-A-Long with school related projects!
I created the crayon water bottle cozy crochet pattern because my kiddos love to color… and then Lion Brand Yarn came out with Crayola Yarn and it felt like it was meant to be! This fun project is a perfect scrap buster, nearly endless color opportunities, and quick to make. The “scribble” strap is a fun little feature and with the opening giving access to the bottle, a child wouldn’t even need to take it out to enjoy a refreshing drink of water!
THIS PATTERN IS PART OF THE 2019 BACK TO SCHOOL BLOG HOP CROCHET ALONG! Read more about this CAL at the end of the pattern.

Special Pattern Notes:
Beginning chain does not count as a stitch unless noted.
This pattern is mainly worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to help count rows by marking first stitch of each round. When joining with a color change, pull as tight as possible to align colors.
It’s easier to work when black yarn is precut. 6 yards will be needed for the top two stripes and 6 yards will be needed for the bottom two stripes. 4 yards will be needed for the oval appliqué.

Could yo explain what you mean by “work between the stitches?” I’m fairly new to crochet, and I don’t understand…
Hello and thanks for reaching out! When you normally work stitches, you work in the front and back loops of the stitch that run horizontally. Each stitch has a vertical post and a horizonal bar that runs vertically in the back. You’ll want to work the stock over both loops and the back horizonal bar, which results in you working between the posts of each stitch. You don’t have to work between the stitches to make this. It just hides the back horizonal bar when you’re working on the wrong side. Does that help?
Good Day!! Thanks for sharing your article with us.
I tried this in a very bright orange, and it turned out great! Thanks for making this and the other bottle cozies. My tennis team will enjoy this!
This is great, but I could not figure out Round 6. I just hdc around, and it worked fine. If anyone can explain that, it would be helpful.
Here’s a video tutorial on the pattern. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/OMDwnxVzxm8
