Emily, owner and designer behind Em’s Corner is not only a great designer but an amazing person! She’s been a tester for me for nearly a year now and she’s such a pleasure to work with! Though I love to have her as a tester, I love her designs and hopes she continues down the designing path. Not only does she design and test but this lady has a lot going on!

Emily has helped me out on many occasions with my designing. But more than that, she’s part of many crochet communities including Happily Hooked Magazine, The Crochet Cafe, The Pattern Pack and Design Wars. Read a little more about what Emily had to say about more than just her designing:
My second passion is photography. I am not a professional by any means but I have been taking classes and I have been trying to improve my skills.
I don’t have much spare time anymore. I’ve been working at Happily Hooked Magazine for the past year as the Assistant Editor. I stay busy tech-editing pattern submissions. I run the blog over at www.thecrochetcafe.com which is another fun job. I enjoy putting together pattern round-ups, tutorials, and blogging everyday. I also tech-edit for The Pattern Pack and Design Wars. Between all of that and my 4 kids, I stay really busy but I love every minute of it!
How long have you been crocheting? What got you started?
When my 3rd child, my only girl, was born, I wanted to be able to make some adorable hats and headbands for her. My sister was over one day. She had been knitting for a few years and had recently learned to crochet. She suggested I skip the knitting and go for crochet. She showed me the basic stitches and then I learned the rest from YouTube. I was immediately hooked and tried to learn as much as I could, as fast as I could. I’ve been crocheting every day since.
Where do you see your business going? Where would you like to be in 5 years?
I really enjoy creating patterns, but I also love to tech-edit and teach so I would like to be able to split my time evenly among those three ventures.
Do you have any upcoming patterns you’d like to share with us?
Release date 10/1 http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sparkle-shawl I also have a Slouchy Hat coming out in the October issue of Happily Hooked that I am really excited about.
What is your favorite design and why?
http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Emilymtruman/diagonal-weave-infinity-scarf-or-cowl I LOVE the texture of this infinity scarf by Crochet by Jennifer and I absolutely love working with striping yarn, in this case Red Heart Unforgettable.
What is your favorite item to make as a gift?
I love making baby gifts and especially baby booties. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/crete-sneaker is my favorite pattern for little baby boys.
Where is the strangest place you’ve crocheted?
I pretty much crochet everywhere, doctor’s offices, golf practice, the mall, church, and even while nursing a baby!
What is your favorite hook and why?
I really love my G (4.0mm) hook. I love working with DK yarn and a G hook and DK yarn makes the perfect lightweight crochet fabric.
Which crochet celebrity would you want to meet?
I’m a big fan of MarlyBird but I’d also just love to meet my favorite crochet designers that I follow on facebook, Jennifer Pionk, Pam Dajcek, Jennifer Dougherty, Salena Baca, Liz McQueen, Danyel Pink, Crystal Bucholz, Sarah Lora, and Susan Carlson. I’ve followed their work since most of them began publishing, so I feel like I know them well, even though we’ve never met in person.
What celebrity would you like to see wearing your designs and why?
My husband and I used to watch White Collar until it got cancelled last season. I loved Neil Caffrey’s character played by Matt Bomer. He has an incredible sense of style and I would be thrilled if he wore one of my scarves or beanies. I’d like to design more items for guys because I have 3 of my own little boys and a husband. It’s a bit of an underserved market.
What is your favorite color or color combination you like to work with?
I love coral and aqua in the summer because it is so cheery and Navy and Willow (beige from KnitPicks) in the winter because they go with everything.
What is your least favorite thing to make?
I’m not a big fan of anything that requires sewing on pieces or parts although I am getting better. I like to crochet, not sew…
