An Elite Crochet Challenge

Back To School Challenge

It’s that time of year again. School registration has started, supply lists are out, the children are bored yet complaining school will start soon— oh wait, that’s me! Not the bored part of course, but the complaining part! I love my summers and if you don’t already know, I work at a local school. And though I love my job, I love my summer break more. It gives me more time to spend with my children and more time designing. So, as excited as I am to participate in yet another Design Wars Challenge, I am also sad that the summer is coming to an end. With that said though, this Back To School Challenge is a bit more personal, not just because I work in a school, but also because my oldest child will be in kindergarten this year!

Be sure to watch as the upcoming challenge unfolds! Today, the designers participating in this event have been announced! Including myself, you’ll find the other 6 challengers, and where you can find their work!

Sunday, August 10th you’ll get the sneak peeks and the much waited for reveal will be Sunday, August 17th! Voting will begin then and last through the week with the winners announced Sunday, August 24th! YOU will be able to vote for your favorite designs during that week on the Design Wars site!

This round, though it revolves around a school theme, has various yarns involved! We got the chance to choose our own and in doing so, got to review new yarns.

Mine? Loops and Threads Impeccable!!

I chose this yarn for many reasons. My project uses multiple colors and I need those colors available. With 24 solid colors, 7 glitter colors, and 11 variegated colors available, Loops & Thread Impeccable is a perfect choice! I’ve used the solids, the Big!, the Glitter and the Ombre versions for my Back to School Challenge project. This is a nice, sturdy yarn that doesn’t pill or split easily. I found the variegated colors were slightly more soft than the solid colors, with some solids softer than others.  The smaller skeins (4.5 oz for solids and Ombre, 3.5 oz for Glitter) are perfect for hats and scarves while the Big! skein (14 oz for solids, 10.5 oz for Ombres) would be perfect for afghans or larger projects. This acrylic yarn would be a perfect choice for many projects. And at $3.49 for a smaller skein, $4.49 for Glitter, and $9.99 for a Big! you can’t go wrong!
