KoKo Cocoon Cardigan ~ A Free Crochet Pattern

Woohoo!!! One of my fav stitches is the picot stitch so when Stitch and Hustle called for designers for the 2020 Perfect Picot Blog Hop, I was thrilled to take part! This cozy cocoon cardigan crochet pattern actually includes two of my favorite stitches, picot and the puff stitch!

Gauge:

14 dc, 8 rows = 4"

The Furls Odyssey I 5.50mm was used to create the Cocoon Cardigan crochet pattern. When using this hook, my gauge differed from when using a different 5.5mm hook. Please always check gauge to ensure the best fit!

Specialty Stitching: 


Picot:
Ch 3, slst into base stitch (sc in this pattern) See full video and picture tutorial here.

Puff Stitch (puff st): When pulling up a loop, draw up to the height of a dc.
*YO, insert hook into indicated space, YO and pull up a loop, repeat * 2 more times (11 loops on hook), YO and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1


Cocoon Cardigan crochet pattern Instructions

Xs-Med: Ch 160

Lg-3X: Ch 196

R1: Starting in 7th ch from hook (last 3 chs count as dc), [dc, *ch 1, dc, repeat * twice more], ***skip 5, [dc, **ch 1, dc, repeat ** twice more] in next ch, repeat *** across to last 3 chs, skip 2 chs, dc in last ch – 106, 130 sts

R2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, skip 1 ch 1 space, [puff st, ch 2, puff st] in next ch 1 space, *skip 2 ch 1 spaces, [puff st, ch 2, puff st] in next ch 1 space, repeat * across, dc in last dc – 54, 60 sts

R3: Ch 1, turn, sc in same, ch 3, dc in ch 2 space, ch 3, sc between next 2 puff sts, *picot, ch 3, dc in ch 2 space, ch 3, repeat * across, sc in dc - 53, 59 dc and picots

R4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, [dc, *ch 1, dc, repeat * twice more] in each dc across, dc in last sc – 106, 130 sts

Repeat Rows 2-4 until length measure 26” for short length, 34” for average. Increase or decrease length as desired, though doing so will alter yardage needed.

Finish off and weave in ends.

It is recommended to block the garment prior to sewing. You can find a Wet Blocking Crochet Projects Tutorial here.

Fold in half with right sides together matching starting chain and last row. Sew raw edges up evenly until there’s an opening of {5.5”, 6.5”}". This creates the arm holes. Weave in ends.
