Though this free cow newborn beanie crochet pattern is worked up in brown and white, really it can be done in any color. Add a bow by an ear for a more girly version.

Free Cow Newborn Beanie Crochet Pattern
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted Weight Yarn like RED HEART Soft Yarn in brown/black and white
- Hook: Size H, 5.0mm and Size I, 5.5mm
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- Measuring Tape
- Burlap Fabric
- Glue Gun and Hot Glue Gun Sticks
- Needle and Thread
- Black Buttons

Gauge:
14 hdc by 9 rows = 4″

In white, magic circle
R1: Ch 1, 8 hdc, join – 8 sts
R2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each, join – 16 sts
R3: Ch 1, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 24 sts
R4: Ch 1, hdc in same and next, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 32 sts
R5: Ch 1, hdc in same and next 2, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next 3, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 40
R6: Ch 1, hdc in same and next 3, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next, repeat * 2 more times, hdc next 3 with brown/black, hdc in next with white, 2 hdc in next, **hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next, repeat ** around, join – 48 sts

R7: Ch 1, hdc in same and next 22, hdc in next 5 with brown/black, hdc around in white, join – 48 sts
R8: Ch 1, hdc in same and next 22, hdc in next 5 with brown/black, hdc in next 8 with white, hdc in next 10 with brown/black, hdc in next 2 with white, join – 48 sts
R9: Ch 1, hdc in same and next 23, hdc in next 3 with brown/black, hdc in next 9 with white, hdc in next 10 with brown/black, hdc in next 2 with white, join – 48 sts
R10: Ch 1, hdc in same and next 35, hdc in next 10 with brown/black, hdc in next 2 with white, join – 48 sts
R11: Ch 1, hdc in same and each st around with brown/black, join – 48 sts
Repeat Round 11 until height of beanie measures 5.5″.
With H hook
R12: Ch 1, sc in same and each st around with brown/black, join – 48 sts
Finish off and weave in ends.
Cut burlap piece 4.5″ long by .75″ high. Using hot glue gun, glue burlap in desired place. Sew 2 larger buttons evenly over burlap for nostrils. Sew 2 smaller buttons above burlap evenly apart as eyes.
Ear
Ch 5 with H hook and brown/black yarn. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in last ch, turn chain so working down opposite side, sc 3.
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. Make second ear. Sew ears evenly on top of hat.
