Stash-busting snowman crochet pattern
Materials:
- Yarn: Any Weight
- Hook: Hook appropriate for yarn or a size or two smaller
- Poly-fil
- Safety Eyes (size depends on size snowman)
- Small Stick or felt (for nose)
- 1 3/8 Pom Pom Maker or learn how to make one here
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- Measuring Tape
Sizing:
Size will vary with different yarn weights and hook sizes.
Gauge:
Not critical. Check yarn label and use recommended hook or a hook one or two sizes smaller.
Pattern Key:
- Ch: Chain
- Hdc: Half Double Crochet
- FLO: Front Loop Only
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- *: Repeat according to instructions

Special Pattern Notes:
Beginning chain does not count as a stitch.
It is best to use the same weight yarn for entire project. Any weight yarn can be used. Be sure to use hook recommended for that yarn, or a size or two smaller. If stitches have larger gaps, go down a hook size. This will ensure stuffing with now show through.
Safety eyes will also vary do to size of snowman.
Pattern Instructions
Snowman Body
Magic Circle
R1: Ch 1, 10 hdc in circle, join – 10 sts
R2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join – 20 sts
R3: Ch 1, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 30 sts
R4: Ch 1, hdc in same and next, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 40 sts
R5-9: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join - 40 sts
R10: Ch 1, hdc in same and next, hdc2tog, *hdc in next 2, hdc2tog, repeat * around, join – 30 sts
R11: Ch 1, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 45 sts
Finish off and weave in ends. Stuff only half full with Poly-fil. The head of the snowman will need to fit partially inside the body.
Snowman Head
Magic Circle with White
R1: Ch 1, 10 hdc in circle, join – 10 sts
R2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join – 20 sts
R3: Ch 1, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 30 sts
R4-7: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join - 30 sts
R8: Ch 1, hdc in same, hdc2tog over next 2 sts, *hdc in next, hdc2tog over next 2 sts, repeat * around, join – 20 sts
R9: Ch 1, starting in same, hdc2tog around, join – 10 sts
Add safety eyes, then fill firmly with Fiberfill.
R10: Ch 1, starting in same and using FLO, hdc2tog around, join – 5 sts
Finish off and weave in ends.
Options: Sew head to Round 10 of the body. Or keep the head unattached to put small items in body secretly!
Snowman Hat
Magic Circle
R1: Ch 1, 10 hdc in circle, join – 10 sts
R2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join – 20 sts
R3: Ch 1, hdc in same, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 30 sts
R4: Ch 1, hdc in same and next, 2 hdc in next, *hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in next, repeat * around, join – 40 sts
R5-7: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join - 40 sts
R8: Ch 1, starting in same and using FLO, hdc in each st around, join – 40 sts
Finish off and weave in ends. Create a 1 3/8” pom pom and sew to top of hat. Place on top of head.
