Granny Diamond Coaster Crochet Pattern
Materials:
- Yarn: 20 yards Furls Whims Merino Worsted Weight or similar yarn
- Hook: Furls Odyssey H 5.00mm
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- Measuring Tape
Sizing:
5" width, 6"
Gauge:
14 dc, 7 rows = 4"
The Furls Odyssey H 5.00mm was used to create this pattern. When using this hook, my gauge differed from when using a different 5.0mm hook. Please always check gauge to ensure the best fit!

Double Crochet Cluster (dc cluster):
A cluster will be known throughout this pattern as any 3 dc worked into one stitch in the previous row.
Crochet Granny Diamond Coaster Pattern Instructions
Ch 4
R1: In 4th ch from hook, 3 dc – 3 sts
R2: Ch 4, turn, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc between last dc and turning ch – 6 sts
R3: Ch 4, turn, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, 3 dc between last dc and turning ch – 9 sts
R4: Ch 4, turn, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, repeat * once more, 3 dc between last dc and turning ch – 12 sts
R5: Ch 4, turn, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, repeat * twice more, 3 dc between last dc and turning ch – 15 sts
R6: Ch 4, turn, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, repeat * three more times, 3 dc between last dc and turning ch – 18 sts
R7: Turn, slst in next 2 sts and between dc clusters, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, *skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, repeat * three more times – 15 sts
R8: Turn, slst in next 2 sts and between dc clusters, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, *skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, repeat * twice more – 12 sts
R9: Turn, slst in next 2 sts and between dc clusters, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, *skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters, repeat * once more – 9 sts
R10: Turn, slst in next 2 sts and between dc clusters, ch 2, 3 dc in same space, skip 3 dc, 3 dc between dc clusters – 6 sts
R11: Turn, slst in next 2 sts and between dc clusters, ch 2, 3 dc in same space – 3 sts
Edging: Ch 1, rotate work so working down raw edge, 3 sc in the side of stitch, dc in lower part of same side of the stitch, *sc in side of next stitch/chain, dc in lower part of same side of stitch/chain, repeat * across raw edge to corner, 3 sc in corner, rotate piece so working down raw edge, sc evenly down raw edge to corner, 3 sc in corner, rotate piece so working down raw edge, sc evenly down raw edge to corner, 3 sc in corner, dc in lowest area, **sc in closest area, dc in lowest area, repeat ** across to corner, join
Finish off and weave in ends.

Picture Tutorial
Upper left picture shows where to work between clusters. Middle upper picture shows one double crochet worked between clusters. Upper right shows where to work between the chain 2 and last dc. Picture to the left shows the decrease. Slip stitches are worked into the next 2 stitches after turning, then into the space between clusters.
Edging Picture Tutorial
Upper left picture shows diamond shape complete. Now on to the edging. On each of the uppers sides on the first pictures (rough edges) will need a single crochet in a peak and a double crochet in a valley. Middle picture shows a single crochet in the first “peak”. The upper right picture shows a double crochet in the “valley”.
Each corner will have 3 sc worked into it.
There will be times when you’ll be working in a stitch (shown in the picture below to the left), as well as in a slip stitch (shown in the picture below to the right). There are also times you may need to work a stitch in the side of a stitch.
